Ron DeSantis exits the U.S. presidential race

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, whom Trump referred to as his main competitor for the Republican Party's presidential nomination, announced on Sunday, January 21, that he would not be participating in the U.S. presidential elections. He expressed his support for Donald Trump. DeSantis: No Clear Path to Victory

DeSantis explained his decision by stating that his actions would not lead to the "desired outcome." "I cannot ask people who support us to voluntarily give their time and sacrifice their resources if we do not have a clear path to victory. Therefore, today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign," he said in a video statement posted on social media X. He captioned the video with a quote from Winston Churchill: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." "It is clear that the majority of participants in the Republican primaries want to give Donald Trump another chance," he stated. "I have signed a pledge to support the Republican candidate, and I will fulfill this pledge. I support him because we cannot return to the old guard of the past years or a repackaged form of heated corporatism represented by Nikki Haley."

Bloomberg: DeSantis' Sponsors Target 2028 According to Bloomberg, some sponsors of the 45-year-old DeSantis' campaign want him to preserve political capital and potentially run for president again in 2028, when Trump will no longer be on the ballot.

Two candidates are now participating in the Republican Party primaries - the 45th President Donald Trump and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN and ex-governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley. In the Republican primaries that began on January 15 in Iowa, Trump received 20 votes, DeSantis received eight, and Haley received seven.
